South India is the seat of the most ancient civilization
of the world, which saw the glorious regimes of powerful
kingdoms such as Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas, Pallavas, Nayaks,
Chalukyas, Hoysalas, Odayars and the Vijayanagaram Empire.
It was the golden age for all traditional art forms, which
were patronized by the times. These art forms have been
handled down the generations and are prevalent up to the
day. It is, however, unfortunate that these priceless
art forms are facing extinction due to lack of adequate
support, un-remunerative returns, vocational diversion
and disorganized existence.
Raasi whose objective is to reorganize, nurture and develop
these traditional art forms in co-ordination with the
NGOs, cultural associations, art lovers and the public
at general.
In this direction, Raasi has taken resolute steps in organizing
the practitioners of these arts, offering then financial
assistance in developing their art, providing them formal
and professional training and aiding them in marketing
their creative works of art.
Keeping in mind the dynamic trends in the development
of art, Raasi encourages innovative variations and creative
modulations in the traditional art without diluting the
original value and style, thus enriching the art in tune
with contemporary appreciation.
